"The Porcupine" is an Arduino-based interactive sculpture that utilizes an ultrasonic range finder, two fans, and a nylon sack.
This project was one of my first forays into working with Arduino, so I wanted to keep the code simple. The range finder triggers one fan blowing inwards when it detects a viewer has approached by measuring the distance between the viewer and the sculpture. When the viewer leaves, a second fan blowing outwards is triggered, thus deflating the sack.
All components of this piece were constructed by me, including creating a pattern for and sewing the nylon & constructing the wooden base.
